In a recent conversation with Karen Adler, the current owner of the Picture Show Gallery, the reasoning for the closing of the shop was finally revealed. After over 30 years of supplying Seal Beach with fine art, she said that the “Time is right to go, and [I want] to focus on [my] website more.” Adler also wants to put more time into the Tiki Marketplace.
Adler said that slow business, higher rent costs, online buying and lack of younger generations buying were some of the main factors. Since the passing of her husband about a few years ago, Adler kept the shop running in his name. However, after a long, difficult time of thinking, Adler knew that she was only “holding on [to the store] for her husband,” and that it was time to move forward in her life. The Picture Show Gallery’s final business day will be Sunday, Sept. 17, and up until then, the store is having a 30 percent storewide discount on all products.
