Seal Beach bicycle safety time has come

I was pleased to read in the last edition of the Sun that the Seal Beach Police Department is stepping up their efforts to address the problems presented by some bicyclists  in our town.

There is not a week that goes by that I have failed to see a number of bicyclists riding on the sidewalks, roaring through stop signs without slowing down and generally ignoring other rules of the road that we are all bound by.

The prevailing attitude seems to be that they are somehow “entitled” and the laws do not apply to them.

I have lost count of the times I have had to brake suddenly to avoid hitting one of the “elite” as they zoom though a stop sign.

I realize that many of these riders are not local but come from other areas. I am hopeful that once increased enforcement begins that this ongoing hazard will subside and that word will get out that while we who live in Seal Beach are willing to share the road we will not suffer scofflaws.
