Stylish Solutions: How younger men can beat back gray hair

Hi Lisa:

I am in my 20s and I guess I am just not ready to look older. I have been seeing more and more grey hair (yikes) over the last few months. It’s so noticeable in the front of my hair. My dad went grey in his 20s, too, and was all white by his 30s.

Now I see guys who color their hair and you know it. I do not want to look like that so, please, what would you recommend?

Hi Lenny:

I may have the exact product that will help you.

Paul Mitchell has a professional hair color line called “10 Minute Color For Men.” It’s a Demi-Permanent hair color and as it says, it has a 10-minute process time so its quick and easy to do and it gives a very natural looking finish.

It comes in three different shades—light, medium and dark, I have used it as a lot of male clients do not want to have a lot of grey but want to keep a natural look to their hair. Most salons offer this service and its quick and is a great way to conquer grey hair so give it a try when you have your next hair cut. It’s great only taking 10 minutes and I’m sure you will be very happy with the result.

Thanks, Lisa

Half –Up hairdos

Dear Lisa

Do you have any tips on styling my hair? I love to put some of my hair up and leave some down, but I find half way through my working day it slowly comes unraveled. As I work in a professional office, I need to look smart. Do you have any suggestions on making my hair stay in place?

Anne Marie Hodgkins

Hi Anne Marie

To create an up-do that lasts, the first thing to do after shampooing your hair is to apply a volumizer to the roots. This you should do whether your hair is thick or fine as it will help make pinning your hair easier.

It will also ensure that you have texture and that your style stays in place.

For a look that requires height at the crown—which would be half-up, half-down style—section your hair and spray a root-lifter on the underneath of hair, holding each section up.

Direct the blow-dry nozzle at the roots for a couple of seconds and then when you have all sections done lightly, tease and spray with a hairspray.

Then smooth out your hair in your desired look.

To keep bobby pins in place, spritz them with hairspray first to give them some traction.

Meanwhile, always crisscross one over another so they don’t move and fall out—this is a great little trick.

Hair-bands are coming back and they always look good. You can get very fine ones in plain colors such as black, charcoal grey and gold. Some are more decorative for evening wear.

However, remember that if you tease the hair first before putting it on, the hair will have body and will stay in better for you.

I hope these tips help you.

Thanks, Lisa
