Rossmoor volunteers find lost dog

Mickey, the big fellow above, is glad to be back home with the new kid in the house.

Mickey Garr, a 13-year-old golden retriever who had been dealing with an illness and a new puppy in the house, decided to take himself for a walk in his Rossmoor neighborhood.

When the Garr family realized Mickey was missing, they immediately notified Bill Gekler of the Rossmoor Homeowner’s Association. Gekler told them to contact the Rossmoor Predator Management Team knowing its specialty was aiding in the recovery of lost and found dogs.

Upon receiving the Garr family’s e-mail desperately seeking returning of Mickey, the team sent out an e-mail alert to over 300 Rossmoor residents to be on the look out for Mickey.

Within a few minutes response e-mails were received notifying the team that Mickey was nowhere on their block.

It was a hot day and a few hours before dusk in a coyote ridden neighborhood when the Team went into action.

A very tired and dehydrated Mickey was found on Martha Ann trying to find his way home.

A resident trailed behind him, making sure Mickey would find his way.

When Mickey heard his name called by a team member to return him home, he immediately got into the car. Mickey was given water and treats until his family came for him. The RPMT has volunteers who have repeatedly taken to their cars in search of lost dogs before a coyote can get to them.
