City Council to look at Main Street plan

Hearing on May 13

The City Council will hold a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Main Street Specific Plan on Monday, May 13, according to a legal notice published in the May 2 print edition of the Sun.

The Planning Commission voted 4-1 to recommend that the council approve the proposed guidelines for business uses of Main Street’s sidewalks in April.

The proposal, according to the legal notice, would allow temporary outdoor uses as dining, benches, plants, and signage as long as there is an 8-foot clearance on Main Street. The program would allow administrative permitting of outdoor uses.

Merchandise displays would require a Minor Use Permit or a Conditional Use Permit, according to the draft of the Main Street Outdoor Uses Guide.

At the April Planning Commission meeting, planners recommended the same standards for merchandise as dining, bolster the revocation of the outdoor use permit, and ensuring that business owners maintain their outdoor uses.
