New additions coming to the 56th annual Sunset Beach Art Festival this weekend

Las Damas event to raise money for art and philanthropy

There’ll be plenty of live music this weekend as Las Damas presents the 56th Annual Sunset Beach Art Festival this weekend, May 11 – 12.

This might be the 56th year of the Sunset Beach Art Festival held by Las Damas but there are many new additions festival goers will enjoy this weekend.

The 56th Annual Sunset Beach Art Festival is happening Mother’s Day weekend, Sat., May 11, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sun., May 12, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“There’s plenty of new additions this year, including tasty food additions, new brewhouses and a variety of bands,” said Las Damas spokesperson Natalie Vaughn.

“This year, we have over 130 artisan vendors featuring only hand-crafted items that will line the green belt from 7th Street to Broadway,” said Vaughn.

“Also, there’s live music on both days from popular local bands like Phunkle, Road Kill Kings and Cat Reed and special performance by the Surf City Go Go Girls,” she said.

In addition, new for this year is a second beer garden sponsored by local brewers Riip Brewing Co. that will be located at the 7th Street entrance, she said. There will be food trucks and music in this area as well as at the main stage area located at 12th Street.

“We have several new food trucks joining us this year like Italia Pasta e Pizza, Bred Hot Chicken, Califas BBQ and Hyperhouse Sweets, just to name a few,” said Vaughn.

Again this year, the Art Gallery will be located in the Community Center for festival-goers to explore this year’s competitors and winners. There will also be a special area for children.

“And don’t forget to purchase your raffle tickets for this year’s Quilt located just outside the Community Center, said Vaughn, noting that the quilt raffle has been a part of the Las Damas heritage for its nearly 75-year existence.

“The members all sew the quilt squares to contribute to the art festival and our fundraising efforts,” she said.

For more than half a century, Las Damas has presented this traditional outdoor event in Sunset Beach to allow the community to enjoy some of the best arts and crafts in the region along with art created by some of the area’s most talented artists.

Las Damas is a volunteer women’s non-profit organization that promotes the arts, philanthropy, and education. Las Damas contributes 100% of the profits from the Sunset Beach Art Festival to local public schools, and local non-profit organizations, including continuing education grants for residents.

Parking is available along the green belt as well as at Peter’s Landing with free shuttle service to the event. Visit our website for more information: https://sunsetbeachartfestival.net.
