Briefing Room: SBPD to support men’s health during ‘Movember’

SBPD officers will grow facial hair for charity. So what kind of mustache should Lt. Nicholas wear?

Hi Seal Beach!  I hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween!

Now that November is here, you will probably see something different on our officers’ faces.  Seal Beach PD personnel are giving up their clean-shaven appearance in support of men’s health this month.  After making a $100 donation, Seal Beach officers and professional staff can participate in the no-shave “Movember” charity drive, by growing a moustache, goatee or beard.  Funds raised will be donated to the Movember Foundation.

From the Movember website:

“The state of men’s health is in crisis. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years.

Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50 years.

Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year.

The Movember Foundation is uniquely placed to address the crisis at a global level. We’re funding groundbreaking programs all over the world, engaging with men where they are, to understand what works best, to help make change happen sooner.”

So now the real question.  What type of mustache should I try to grow?  Should I channel Vincent Price and go with the pencil mustache?  The Tom Selleck?  Waxed handlebar?  Send me your recommendations!
