Seal Beach should reconsider Sunset Beach

Congratulations and welcome to our newly elected Seal Beach City Council members. I wish you all the best as the new agenda starts and clearing out pending agenda items.

As a resident of Seal Beach I request our new council to re-open the opportunity to vote for annexation of Sunset Beach.

In response to the concerns of the Sunset Beach Residents based on their Web site Citizens Association of Sunset Beach, it seems they are reaching out for our fine city to annex Sunset Beach.

Yes, they would like to be their own community but this probably will not happen.

I have randomly asked residents of Seal Beach on their feeling and 100 percent are for the annexation. Some have expressed the concern why they did not have the opportunity to vote.

If one is to look at the information available in the CASB Web site they would see the water is being purchased from Huntington Beach, no change required. The sewer infrastructure and water system is in great shape. What would Seal Beach need to do if they annexed Sunset Beach, add an additional patrol unit?

Add one new district for a voice on the council?

Keep the existing county fire station manned and retain the building in Sunset Beach?

Add another three-four lifeguards in the summer months, one additional full time Lifeguard and vehicle to patrol the beach in the winter months? Expand the green belt maintenance, which is contracted?

Share in all the festivities with Sunset as we do now!

I urge the people of Seal Beach to step up and be heard, let your council representatives know. Write to Dennis at the Sun Newspaper! Why let this golden moment pass through our fingers to save our sister county area and have it become part of Seal Beach?

Thank You,

Tom Hetherington

Editor’s note: On Wednesday, Dec. 8, after the Sun Newspapers had gone to press, the Orange County Local Area Formation Commission approved the annexation of Sunset Beach by Huntington Beach.
