Navy plans new ammunition pier, waterfront facilities in Seal Beach

The U.S. Navy will hold a public meeting about the proposed replacement of the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach’s ammunition pier and waterfront facilities on Thursday, April 7. The Navy is preparing an Environmental Assessment to analyze the potential impacts of the project.

The meeting will be held from  5 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room of  Fire Station #48, 3131 N. Gate Rd., in Seal Beach

The new pier would be built to current earthquake standards, able to support future fleet requirements, and provide greater separation between Navy operations and civilian boat traffic.

A thorough environmental review will be done to determine whether the proposed project would have potentially significant impacts. The Navy is requesting public input on the scope of issues and environmental resources to be analyzed in the EA.

Proposed Project

The Navy proposes to construct an approximately 1,100-foot by 125-foot replacement ammunition pier and associated waterfront facilities inside Anaheim Bay. The project would include dredging for the pier, turning basin and new small boat access channel. The small boat access channel would be for civilian boat traffic to and from Huntington Harbour.

The Navy invites the public to learn about the proposed project and provide comments on the scope of issues and environmental resources to be considered in development of the EA.
