Missing Seal Beach woman found in Tijuana

A missing Leisure World resident named Shirley Reimers, 93, was found in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday, March 16. She was reported missing to the Seal Beach Police Department that morning and police learned she had been found at 12:45 p.m.

Her son called the Seal Beach Police at 8:18 a.m. He told officers that he hadn’t heard from his 93-year-old mother in more than 12 hours.

Upon arrival, officers and investigators learned the son was supposed to be picked up by his mother, Shirley Reimers, at the Long Beach Airport on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at 8 p.m.; however, she never arrived. ??After walking to her residence in Leisure World and searching for her throughout the night without success, the son contacted the Seal Beach Police Department.

While officers and investigators were on scene, a Good Samaritan from Tijuana, Mexico called the Leisure World residence. The Good Samaritan, whose identity has not been released by the police, stated she observed and spoke with a distraught lady, who stated her name was Shirley Reimers, walking on the side of the road in Tijuana, at 9 a.m.

Because Shirley Reimers appeared to be in distress, the Good Samaritan brought Reimers to her Tijuana home for safety.

Investigators were then able to use the Seal Beach Police Department’s Facebook Video/Messenger Application to have visual contact with the Good Samaritan and Shirley Reimers.

Through an extensive collaboration of law enforcement partnerships, the Tijuana Police Department was then able to respond to the Tijuana, Mexico residence.

While there, Tijuana Police ensured her safety and then drove Shirley Reimers to the United States/Mexico Border to meet with the United States Customs and Border Protection. The California Highway Patrol transported Shirley Reimers to their San Diego Office, where Seal Beach investigators were waiting for her.

At 5 p.m., Shirley Reimers was then reunited with her family in Leisure World and is resting happily at this time. Seal Beach Police officials thanked the Tijuana, Mexico, Police Department; the United States Marshals;?the United States Customs and Border Protection; the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego Office.
