Woman robbed in Sprouts parking lot

A woman was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of Sprouts Farmers Market Friday afternoon, Sept. 30.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries during the robbery. The victim called the Seal Beach Police Department at about 2:30 p.m.

She said a man approached her in the parking lot in the Shops at Rossmoor center (which is actually located in the city of Seal Beach). The man brandished a gun and demanded her jewelry.

The gunman walked to a car that was apparently waiting for him and entered on the passenger side. The silver or gray car then fled.

The gunman was described as appearing Hispanic, in his early 20s, wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and a baseball cap.

The driver of the getaway car was described as male.

A similar crime occurred in October 2010 when a Rossmoor resident was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot near Farmers & Merchants Bank early Friday morning, Oct. 29.

The criminal in the 2010 case was apparently acting alone. He was driving a car when he stopped and asked his victim for directions—then robbed the Rossmoor man at gunpoint.

The Rossmoor Predator Management Team has requested a meeting with Interim Seal Beach Police Chief Robert Luman and requested crime statistics for the area from October 2010 to the present.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call the on-duty Watch Commander of the Seal Beach Police Department at (562) 799-4115 or Detective Gary Krogman at (562) 799-4100, extension 1108.
