Theft suspects arrested after stealing property from an unlocked car

On Sunday, July 20, at about 1:41 a.m., the Seal Beach Police Department received a call reporting two suspicious individuals in the area of Seal Way and 10th Street. The caller saw a man and woman checking door handles of cars parked in the area. When officers arrived, a witness directed the officers to the two suspects who were hiding under a parked car.

Once the man and woman were safely detained, officers discovered that they were in possession of a garbage bag full of stolen property. Inside of the bag was a checkbook which belonged to a resident who lived a few blocks away. Officers contacted the owner of the checkbook who confirmed that her vehicle had been rummaged through and her property had been stolen. The checkbook and other items which were stolen from the victim’s vehicle were returned.

The male and female were also in possession of a bicycle. A short distance away from where they were hiding, officers located a bicycle cable lock which had been cut. Officers located the owner of the bike and he confirmed that the lock had been cut and his bicycle had been stolen. When officers searched the female, they found a pair of bolt cutters in her pocket.

Adrian Ramos and Tierra Timms, both aged 20 of Long Beach, were arrested for multiple charges including possession of burglary tools, theft, and possession of stolen property. They were booked at the Seal Beach Jail.

“We can’t be everywhere at once,” said Sgt. Nick Nicholas. “We need the public to help us be the eyes and ears of the community. We might not have caught these two if it wasn’t for the fact that the witness did not hesitate to call us to report the suspicious activity.”

The Seal Beach Police Department strongly encourages the public to report all suspicious activity, to remove valuables from vehicles and to ensure car doors are kept locked. Residents should always secure their bicycles using good quality locks.
