Surfing school makes a wish come true for plucky girl with true grit

Carsen Svilich of Alexandria, Virginia, is a 10-year-old girl with a neurological condition that has, as yet, eluded diagnosis.  The condition began to manifest itself around her fourth birthday; landing her in a wheelchair by about her sixth birthday.

In spite of her challenges, Carsen does not let her condition keep her down.

She is a good student, avid swimmer, and has experimented with horseback riding.

In the summer of 2013, she watched her big sister try surfing for the first time at M&M Surf School and said, “I want to try too.”

Mike and Mike at M&M Surfing School said they were happy to give it a try when Carsen visited her grandparents in Long Beach this summer.

In spite of waves running 2-3 feet, she was eager to slip on a wetsuit and go for it.

Her smile says it all.  She is already asking when she can try again.
