Shooting survivor released from hospital

Shooting survivor Hattie Stretz, seen here with her husband Tom, is now listed in good condation.

Harriet “Hattie” Stretz, the sole survivor of the Seal Beach Salon Meritage shootings, was released from the hospital Monday, Oct. 17.

The Seal Beach Police Department announced the news Monday evening.

Stretz’ condition was upgraded to good on Sunday, Oct. 16.

 “At the request of the Stretz family, the Seal Beach Police Department is pleased to announce release that Harriet Stretz, the only survivor of Wednesday’s shooting, has been released from the hosptial,” wrote Seal Beach Police Sgt. Steve Bowles.

Stretz was having her hair done by her daughter by her daughter, Laura Lee Elody, on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 12, when a man who has been identified as Scott Evan Dekraai, 41, of Huntington Beach, entered Salon Meritage in Seal Beach and began shooting people.

Although Stretz survived, eight others died—including her daughter Elody. The other victims included Dekraai’s ex-wife. According to news reports, the two were engaged in a bitter custody dispute.

Stretz’ medical condition was initially reported as critical. Then her condition was stable. Now she is going home.
