Director of Development Services Mark Persico no longer works for the city of Seal Beach.

“Mark Persico’s last day of city employment was March 2, 2012,” wrote City Manager Jill Ingram in a 3:40 p.m., Monday, March 5 email to the Sun.

“Without a written authorization from a former employee, it is city policy to provide only the dates of employment with regard to a former employee, and not to provide the nature of the employee’s departure from city employment,” Ingram wrote.

As of 2:03 p.m., Monday, March 3, Persico’s name, office phone number and email are no longer listed on the webpage for the Department of Development Services at the Seal Beach city’s website. Persico’s name had been on the webpage earlier in the day, when the Sun first heard that Persico might no longer be with the city.

Assistant City Manager Sean Crumby said the city manager was responsible for personnel issues.

Persico’s history

Persico was hired as director of Development Services on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009. His first day on the job was Monday, Dec. 7. Persico replaced Interim Director of Development Services Terry Belanger, who took the position following the retirement of Lee Whittenberg.

Before working for Seal Beach, Persico worked for six years as the principal of Persico Planning Partners. Before that, Persico served as Community Development Director for the cities of West Hollywood and Calabasas.

He also served on the Pasadena Planning Commission.
