SBPD arrests man for attempted child abduction

Seal Beach Police arrested a man Friday afternoon, June 21, for attempting to kidnap a 6-year-old child at the beach.

At about 2:49 p.m., the Seal Beach Police Department received a call from city lifeguards about a suspicious person on the beach. Lifeguards were relaying second-hand information from a beachgoer.

Officers located the suspicious individual and following an investigation concluded that a man later identified as Salvador Sanchez, 27, of Hawaiian Gardens, had attempted to lure a 6-year-old child from the water. As he was doing this the parents as well as other beachgoers noticed the man and yelled at him. He then fled.

Sanchez was located moments later by responding Seal Beach Police officers. He was arrested and booked into the Seal Beach Jail for attempted kidnapping and later booked into the Orange County Jail.

Police officials encourage parents to be aware of the potential for crimes committed on the beach while they enjoy summer beach activities.
