It has been an exciting week in the Los Alamitos School District when winners of the Run Seal Beach Kids 1K Fun Run T-shirt Design Contest were announced from three different elementary schools. The diversity of schools and winners is the first in the history of the contest.
On Friday, the Run Seal Beach® Kids 1K Fun Run Committee, including Sammy the Seal, attended Weaver Elementary at the school flag deck. We surprised our first place winner Kiera Wong, a 4th grader, with a beautiful purple Phat Beach Cruiser donated from Main Street Cyclery.  She and her parents were so excited because Kiera has submitted an entry every year since kindergarten.  Look for her riding around Old Town Seal Beach on her new bike.
Next, the committee went to McGaugh Elementary and presented Lauren Gardiner, a 3rd grader, with the second place prize, a beautiful blue body board donated by Alternative Surf on Main Street. Finally on Monday, the third place winner, a first-grader at Lee Elementary, Ashley Matsumoto, was surprised at the flag deck assembly with a $50 gift certificate donated by Harbour Surfboards.  The committee was excited to announce the winners and so appreciative of our three local businesses that have been long term generous donors of prizes to the contest, as well as the three schools who also gave us time from their morning assemblies to announce the winners.
The new T-shirt design created by Kiera will decorate all of the colorful T-shirts that our registered Run Seal Beach®Kids 1K Fun Run participants wear during the Fun Run and into the Fun Zone.  Our Fun Zone this year will have some new crafts and games as well as a return of the old favorites—like spin art, face painting and a bubble zone.
We still need volunteers.  Particularly, we as a Run are always so happy to have our favorite Los Alamitos High School volunteers helping out to keep the kids happy and entertained.  If your child would like to participate in the Kids 1K Fun Run and the Kids Fun Zone, go to www.RunSealBeach.com for more information.  Register now as space is very limited and more than half of the 400 entries have been filled!  1K Kids Fun Run and the main event, the 5/10K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, April 9.  Kids 1K Fun Run starts promptly at 7:30 am and the 5/10K run or walk starts at 8.  It’s a fun day in Old Town Seal Beach so register now and be a part of it!  So again, your participation allows us to give back to so many community organizations, including many of those who volunteer.  Just click the Volunteer Tab on runsealbeach.com.
