The cities of Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, La  Palma, Buena Park, and Westminster have canceled the 20-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training academy that was scheduled to start at JFTB-Los Alamitos on  Jan. 21-29.

According to an official statement, the cancellation is the result of an  abundance of caution.

The program will be held at a future date, which has yet to be determined.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends limiting close contact and avoiding crowds as  much as possible during the  COVID-19 outbreak.

By  postponing this  non-essential gathering, we  can reduce the  risk to Community Emergency Response Team participants and allow cities and emergency agencies to focus on  their primary response missions.

The Seal Beach Police Department, in a statement, thanked the  Joint Forces Training Base, along with all who had expressed interest in this  course.

The Seal Beach Police Department said they could not  conduct this  training academy and exercise without the  help of our  sponsoring cities, response agencies, instructors, and the  volunteer members and leaders of the CERT Team.

Check the  CERT website to determine the  new CERT academy dates at www.WestCountyCERT.com.
