Long Beach gears up for One Book, One Community

The second annual One Book, One Community Program, sponsored by the Rossmoor/Los Alamitos Library and the Shops at Rossmoor, is reading the “Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.

In addition to events at The Shops to celebrate the book, kids, teens and adults are invited to stop by the library in February to extend their experience of the book by participating in the following events:

Sentiments for Soldiers

Adults, teens, and kids may write words of appreciation and encouragement to U.S. soldiers and drop off their letters at the library during the month of February. The letters will be sent to a local unit currently stationed in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

Caring Cards from Kids

Adults, teens, and kids may make cards to show their support for U.S. soldiers from 3 to 5 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Library

The Los Alamitos Rossmoor Library is located at 12700 Montecito Rd., Seal Beach.  For more information please call 562-430-1048 or take a look at our Web site, www.ocpl.org  or the event ning site:

Bookmark Contest

Books make us laugh, take us to other worlds, and bring us together.  Children in preschool through eighth-grade may design a bookmark around this idea using the slogan “One Book, One Community.”

Pick up an entry form at the library and celebrate books, reading, and community.

Entries must be submitted to the library no later than 5 p.m., Saturday, March 13.
