Responsibilities for pet ownership

A great article in the latest Sun newspaper by Enea Ostrich “Please pick up after your dog” in the March 31 issue about the feces problem in the College Park East area.  Many of us have pets, especially dogs and cats, and with ownership come responsibilities. If your dog poops please scoop, place it in a plastic bag then into the trash; the sooner the better. Scientists tell us dog poop is a contributing factor to water pollution and this pollution poses a great hazard to human health.

One of life’s unpleasant happenings: accidentally stepping in a fresh deposit. Ever notice how quickly flies find this material and how fast they join their fellows at the site? This material on lawns, streets and sidewalks is both unsightly and unhygienic; we don’t want this material in our ocean.

Flies will follow each other to the location of food. We often see them in our homes, kitchen, and they love to join us at our barbecues. A common scenario: fly lands on doggy doo, walks around then heads for our kitchen or barbecue with their feet loaded with bad bacteria. To keep Seal Beach beautiful, remember these words of wisdom: when your pet poops, you scoop and also keep a supply of inexpensive fly swatters within easy reach.
