Grand Marshals ready to lead the way

For the 35th Annual Christmas parade, the Marshals are ready, excited and honored to be part of the lead off of our town’s parade.  Both of them have made huge impacts in our community and beyond.

Grand Marshal Dee Carey is a board member and fundraising coordinator for the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. Dee exemplifies support for not only the SBACC, but also the entire community by representing the voice of those animals, who can’t speak for themselves at so many other organizations – the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce, the City of Seal Beach, the Helen Saunder’s CatPaws organization and even the Lions.

Dee said, “I am completely overwhelmed by being selected as Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade!  Seal Beach has been my home for 28 years, and I love living here. After my retirement from the City of Los Angeles, I started volunteering with the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, and that has been my focus ever since. It is wonderful to be recognized, although I feel that this honor is for all of the Care Center volunteers who devote so many hours to caring for the animals.”

Dee plans on having her husband, granddaughter and at least one animal in the car with her for the parade.  “After all if not for them, I would not even be able to have won this recognition.” Oh, and be sure to wish Dee an early birthday as it is just the following week after the parade.

Evan Jenkins has a lot going for him.  He has just been inducted as the youngest Lion in the Seal Beach Lions Club, he has been awarded International Leo of the year and will be presented his award by the International Lions president.  He has been President, Vice President and a Director of the Seal Beach Leos club.

Evan epitomizes the best of what Seal Beach Junior Grand Marshals are known for – service, engagement in community and a willingness to do far more than their fellow youth.

Evan said about his participation as Junior Grand Marshal, “I’ve heard it takes a village and I am thankful to be a part of such a great village of people known as Lions/Leo’s. I invite all to become apart of their community as you’re never too young or too old to give back. That’s why I am not only going to be honored in this parade but working it too.”
