Crime Log: Pedestrian dies in Los Al accident

A pedestrian died Thursday night, June 3, when a pickup struck him on Katella Avenue. There is no evidence that the driver was intoxicated. Police do not know if the dead man was impaired at the time.

Los Alamitos Police received the call at 9:33 p.m.

According to a statement issued by Los Alamitos Police Capt. Bruce McAlpine, witnesses said Anaheim resident Jack Becker, 77, was stepping off the center median at Katella Avenue at Siboney Street when a Chevy Silverado hit him.

The Cypress Police Department and the Orange County Fire Authority were already at the scene when Los Alamitos officers arrived.

Becker was apparently leaving the Los Alamtios Race Track—which is actually located in the city of Cypress—when the accident occurred.

“We have the majority of Katella as far as jurisdiction is concerned,” McAlpine told the Sun Newspapers.

The Los Alamitos Police Department is continuing the investigation. The agency asked that anyone with information about the traffic death call Traffic Sgt. Maria O’Connell at (562) 431 -2255, extension 418.
