Crime Log: Los Angeles Police find stolen Seal Beach vehicle

A Seal Beach motorist and the motorist’s stolen vehicle were recently reunited.

A resident of Seal Beach’s Central Avenue recently bought a car.

On Tuesday, Sept. 28, the owner reported the car stolen. The owner reported the crime to the Seal Beach Police Department at 6:54 a.m.

The owner had last seen the car at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 27.

At 7:25 a.m., Tuesday, the dispatch log recorded that a report had been taken.

However, for the car owner the story wasn’t quite over.

At 9:38 a.m., the Topanga Division of the Los Angeles Police Department reported recovering the stolen vehicle.

According to the log, the vehicle was damaged but not stripped. No plates were missing.

Better still: a suspect was in custody.

The log did not provide further details regarding the suspect.

Seal Beach Police Officer Peter Krok has successfully passed his probationary employment period. He is now a full-time police officer.

Monday, September 27

Vehicle Burglary—7:48 a.m.—Daisy Street—The crime apparently occurred over night between 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26 and the time of the call to police. Point of entry: a broken passenger window. Loss: the navigation system. Report taken.

Welfare Check—5:04 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said someone inside a vehicle appeared to have passed out. Police unit 117 found an individual who was waiting for a friend.

Animal Information—6:32 p.m.—Coastline Drive—The caller reported seeing a coyote puppy running down the street. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Vehicle Burglary—9:25 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—Point of entry: a door. No force used. Loss: a purse, $135 cash, a cell phone, identification and five credit cards.

Tuesday, September 28

Drunk—4:43 p.m.—13th Street and Electric—The caller said a man on a bench on the Green Belt was drinking a beer. The caller believed the man was drunk. Police contacted the man on 13th Street. It turned out he was wanted on four bench warrants.

Municipal Code—6:18 p.m.—13th Street and Electric Avenue—The caller said two women were digging through the trash. They described the two women as Hispanic and said they had two children in strollers with them. Police unit 217 advised them about the municipal code and they said they would comply.

Wednesday, September 29

Vandalism Report—3:18 p.m.—Bluebell Street—The crime apparently occurred within the 24 hours prior to the call. Someone had apparently fired a projectile through the caller’s back window. Police contacted someone regarding the use of paintball and pellet guns in their rear yard. An incident number was issued.

Thursday, September 30

Suspicious Circumstances—8:18 p.m.—1st Street—The caller said an apartment door had been open since Wednesday, Sept. 29. The caller went inside. The dog was gone. The resident’s belongings were still inside. The lights were on. Police unit 217 left a note and secured the residence.

Friday, October 1

Coyote—8:57 a.m.—Avalon Drive—The caller reported a coyote along the park side of the fence line. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services. Animal control officers already knew about the coyote.

Dead Animal—9:29 a.m.—14th Street and Ocean Avenue—The caller saw a cat run into the street. A car hit the cat. The caller was not the driver. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Saturday, October 2

Traffic Stop—3:33 a.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street—Police unit 24 took a woman into custody for driving under the influence. Her name was Vanessa Acosta, born Sept. 26, 1988.

Welfare Check—3:48 a.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—The caller said a man was slumped over the steering wheel of a car in the parking lot. Police determined the man was not in distress. He had been sending a text message.

Dead Animal—4:40 p.m.—B Row, Surfside Colony—The caller reported a dead dolphin on the sand. It turned out to be a dead seal. The Public Works Department was off duty, so Lifeguards agreed to call the Public Works Department in the morning.

Counseling—5:24 p.m.—Dolphin Avenue—The caller wanted police to speak with a neighbor about what the caller said was construction without a permit. The caller had apparently passed the residence four times without seeing any permits on display. Police contacted the neighbor, who said he was putting new tile in his bathroom. Police advised him about doing any type of construction without a permit.

Sunday, September 3

Dead Seal—1:02 p.m.—A Row, Surfside Colony—The caller reported a dead seal on the beach in front of the location. Police confirmed that the seal was dead. Referred to Public Works.

Friday, October 1

Petty Theft Report—3:39 p.m.—Northwood Road, Mutual Unknown—An unknown suspect siphoned gas out of the caller’s rental car.

The crime apparently occurred overnight. The caller said there was a rubber house coming out of the caller’s gas tank. Report taken.

Monday, October 4

Welfare Check—3:45 a.m.—Howard Avenue and Maple Street—The caller said a woman ran from a residence crying.

Tuesday, October 5

Traffic Hazard—9:24 a.m.—Cerritos Avenue—Drivers kept hitting a bag of dry cement in the roadway. The hazard was eliminated.

Wednesday, October 6

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—4:28 a.m.—Walnut Street—The caller said a man had slept in a vehicle.

Officers spoke with the individual, who said he had a verbal disagreement with someone and was sleeping in his car to let things settle down.

Thursday, October 7

Traffic Hazard—10:09 a.m.—Humboldt Street—Two 18-wheel trucks blocked traffic. Parking is not allowed on the street. Truck drivers moved their vehicles.

Friday, October 8

Possible Fraud—3:08 p.m.—Reagan Street—An individual paid for services and six weeks later work had not started yet after six weeks.

Saturday, October 9

Hazard—1:42 p.m.—Bradbury Road and Los Alamitos Boulevard—A tree in a resident’s backyard was reportedly covering the red light signal at the intersection. Los Alamitos Public Works Department was notified.

Sunday, October 10

Welfare Check—11:45 a.m.—Howard Street—A toddler was walking down the street and with no parent in sight. Parent and toddler were reunited before officers arrived.
