Crime Log Compiled by Jessica Boudevin

Editor’s note: This week’s Crime Log is based on three documents provided by the Seal Beach Police Department, a summary version of the log and two detailed versions. The two detailed logs covered the period  from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. The detailed logs included 110 incidents. The summary log covers the period from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3.  Summary logs provide no details about incidents or arrests. The three combined documents totaled 53 pages.

In Seal Beach

Friday, September 27

• Vehicle Theft—Seal Beach Boulevard—Stewart Waithanji was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Saturday, September 28

• Theft—Pacific Coast Highway—Joshua Alan Germain was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting goods, the value of which was less than $950.

Sunday, September 29

• Hang Up—7:03 a.m.—Island View Drive—A caller rang 911 three times but did not say anything. When trying to call back, responders heard the voice mail message. Units patrolled the area but did not hear anything suspicious.

• Hit and Run—9:34 a.m.—Electric Avenue and 11th Street—The caller reported hearing a crash, then going outside and seeing that his white Honda Accord had been hit. A suspicious blue truck with a trailer and front passenger-side damage was seen running stop signs near the scene. Police were unable to locate the truck.

• Found—10:19 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller found a wallet in Sunset Beach.

• Dog Days—10:31 a.m.—First Street—The caller stated that his neighbor, a man in his late 50s to early 60s in a wheelchair, was outside his door, disturbing him about his dogs. Seal Beach officers counseled the parties.

• Check Area—10:29 p.m.—First Street and Marina Drive—The caller stated that, while he was walking, an older green Ford Explorer with two men in it drove by very slowly. They then flipped the caller the bird for no apparent reason.

• Paraphernalia—Pacific Coast Highway and Second  Street (Long Beach)—Carlos Oscar Saracay was arrested on suspicion of possessing unlawful paraphernalia.

Monday, September 30

• Paraphernalia—12:58 a.m.—College Park Drive and San Gabriel River (Long Beach)—Jason Christopher Anguiano was arrested on suspicion of possessing unlawful paraphernalia.

• Disorderly—Main Street and Electric Avenue—Elmer Sullian Ascencio was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct while under the influence of alcohol.

Tuesday, October 1

• Outstanding Warrants—8:21 a.m.—Candleberry Avenue (College Park East)—Based on warrants, officers arrested Terriesha Lastarr Young on suspicion of failing to appear in court and speeding on the highway.

• Oversized—9:36 a.m.—17th Street—The caller stated that a parked motorhome was so wide that he couldn’t pass it, so would like it checked for oversize violations. Seal Beach officers determined that the vehicle was legally parked and that oversized vehicle citations can only be issued between 2—5 a.m.

• Welfare Check—12:30 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller stated that he heard about a transient man sleeping. A second caller provided the location of the individual, saying that he can’t tell if the individual is breathing and that he doesn’t look good. Police determined that the individual was just sleeping and would be leaving the area.

• Petty Theft—1:29 p.m.—Main Street—A person came to the station to report that their purse was stolen on September 29 and that their credit cards were used in Long Beach.

• Suspicious Vehicle—2:42 p.m.—Lampson Avenue—The caller reported that a grey Chevy Tahoe backed into a space at the Seal Beach Tennis Center and stayed there for more than 30 minutes. Police checked the area and determined that no assistance was needed.

• Phone on the Road—3:02 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported that they lost their phone and that it is pinging as being located somewhere on Seal Beach Boulevard. They drove their dark blue Nissan Altima to the spot where they believed their phone to be, parked on the side, and crossed onto the center median to continue looking, but were concerned about traffic. They called back seven minutes later letting police know that they found their phone.

Wednesday, October 2

• Police Check—1:08 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller stated that he was fishing by the First Street jetty and heard a woman screaming in the area. A second caller reported hearing a woman scream three to four times. Police spoke to a couple who said they hadn’t heard anything. Officers checked the construction area and the beach. Police were unable to locate the woman.

• Possession—Seal Beach Boulevard—Melissa Linda Higuera was arrested on suspicion of allegedly possessing a controlled substance.
