Seal Beach Police closed off the intersection of 12th Street and Pacific Coast Highway last week (specifically, on Friday, July 12) apparently as part of an investigation being conducted by the California Department of Transportation.

By now, many of Old Town residents probably know that the closure of the intersection caused an unusually long line of traffic down Seal Beach Boulevard, onto Electric Avenue and onto Main Street.

“This is related to Caltrans activity,” said SBPD Sgt. Nick Nicholas.

Caltrans Public Information Officer David Matza said that the intersection was closed for a Caltrans investigation. However, he described the investigation as confidential at this time.

The intersection of 12th and PCH has been the subject of litigation and a call for a left turn signal since the Aug. 11, 2017 death of Sarah Krueger who was struck by a car. Police received the report of a collision at about 11 a.m. on that day.
