Schelly Sustarsic enters the District Four City Council race

Schelly Sustarsic has announced her candidacy for the City Council, District 4, which includes mostly College Park East.  After years of outstanding service devoted to CPE, as well as representing the City of Seal Beach and the County of Orange, Schelly is asking the citizens of CPE to support her continued service as the CPE representative on the Seal Beach City Council.

As residents of Seal Beach know, Schelly’s years of service to this community is multi-faceted. Schelly and her husband Dennis are 27 year residents of CPE, where they raised their children who attended McGaugh, McAuliffe and Los Al High School.  Schelly began her volunteer days at that time, serving as a teaching assistant, helped  with media, computer, science and art labs, ultimately served on, and as, President of the PTSA at Los Alamitos High School.

Schelly has also devoted countless hours to the College Park East Neighborhood Association for more than ten years, helping to create enjoyable events for our neighborhood.  Schelly has also provided leadership for 17 years as a Chairperson and trusted member of the Seal Beach Parks & Recreation Commission.  As a respected Commissioner, she has worked with the City on numerous city-wide and CPE projects providing her with an in-depth understanding of our community and City, in preparation for serving as Councilperson.

Schelly’s volunteer activities also include  over 17 years of the very successful and community-connected Seal Beach Founders Day Events.  More recently, she was pivotal in the 2015 Seal Beach Centennial Events Committee, making sure that a special Centennial Event children’s event would be celebrated in Heather Park.  As a children’s advocate, she worked with both the Los Al and Seal Beach Girl Scouts , also serving as co-leader of her daughter’s troop.

When the I-405 expansion plans were announced, Schelly obtained appointments to the OCTA Citizens Advisory Committee, the OCTA I-405 Stakeholders Working Group and the OCTA West Count Connectors Stakeholders Working Group committees representing CPE’s interests.  And, she presently serves as an alternate on the Orange County Airport Land Use Commission.   All of this service has not gone unnoticed since she has received numerous awards from the Los Alamitos School District for her dedicated service and she was also awarded the Women Making a Difference Award from State Sen. Lou Correa.

Schelly is a strong advocate for education, and she holds a BS and MA from CSULB and a M.Ph from the University of Kansas.

Outstanding service to our community and strong credentials make Schelly an exemplary candidate.  Her many supporters look forward to another chapter of dedication to CPE and our City by electing her to our City Council.
