Northbound I-405 to close Saturday night in OC Special To The Sun | Tue, Dec 06 2011 03:04 PM

San Diego Freeway will be shut between I-605 and Seal Beach Boulevard

Construction crews will completely close the northbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) Saturday night, and continue nighttime closures for three to four weeks, weather permitting.

The closures are part of the Orange County Transportation Authority’s West County Connectors Project.

All northbound I-405 lanes will be closed between the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) and Seal Beach Boulevard. Once construction on the northbound I-405 is complete, closures will be switched to the southbound I-405.

The nighttime northbound I-405 closure will begin Saturday, Dec. 10 and last several weeks. Work will take place between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday and between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., Saturday and Sunday. It is estimated that work will finish on both sides of the I-405 freeway by the end of January.

Detour signs will be posted and the suggested route is as follows:

From the northbound I-405, exit Seal Beach Boulevard, turn right and proceed north on Seal Beach Boulevard / Los Alamitos Boulevard, turn left on Katella to access the northbound I-605 on-ramp.

From the northbound I-405, exit Seal Beach Boulevard, turn left and proceed south on Seal Beach Boulevard, turn right on Westminster Avenue, turn right on Studebaker Rd. to access the northbound I-405 on-ramp.

From the northbound I-405, exit Westminster Avenue, turn left on Westminster Avenue and proceed west, turn right on Studebaker Rd. to access the northbound   I-405 on-ramp.

From the northbound I-405, exit Westminster Avenue, turn left on Westminster Avenue and proceed west, turn right on Seal Beach Boulevard, continue north on Seal Beach Boulevard / Los Alamitos Boulevard, turn left on Katella to access the northbound I-605 on-ramp.

Freeway closures are necessary as part of the 7th Street Bridge reconstruction. Crews will be building falsework to support the bridge as it is being reassembled.

The $277 million West County Connectors project will improve traffic flow by directly connecting carpool lanes on I-405, I-605 and SR-22. In addition, a second carpool lane will be constructed on I-405 between SR-22 and I-605.
