Wings, Wheels & Rotors Set for Sunday at JFTB

See planes, helicopters, skydivers and hundreds of cars that will be displayed at the 8th Annual Wings, Wheels, Rotors & Expo event.

“This event is a WIN-WIN-WIN for the economy, military and families,” said Chris Barnes, CEO of the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce. “This annual event is now recognized as one of the signature events for the City, the Chamber and the Joint Forces Training Base and is a win, win, for each organization involved.”

This year the event is meant as a recession breaker as it highlights many businesses and gives each of them an opportunity to display their products and services and meet new contacts as over 35,000 spectators attended last year.

“It’s a boost for families who may have been affected by the recession,” Barnes said. “It’s a family event that is free to the public – and that is definitely a win.  We have expanded the Kid’s Corner to include a Rock-Climbing opportunity as well as a BMX demonstration.

“Don’t miss the Young Eagles, who will give airplane rides to the youngsters 8 to 17 years old.  Sign up early to get your spot.”

For those non-thrill seekers, there will be a variety of static displays of helicopters, vintage war birds, and the show favorite, the gigantic C-17, accompanied by two C-130 planes.

“Joint Forces Training Base is a big part of our community, not only the physical size of the base, but the important impact it has on our economic vitality as well as our safety in the event of an emergency or disaster.  I’m glad they are our neighbors,” Barnes said. “This event serves as an Open House for the military and gives them the opportunity to display and “show off” the amazing defense vehicles, planes and helicopters that are “at the ready” for our community and country.”

Proceeds from the event are shared with the Morale, Welfare and Recreation organization on the base.

“It’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ for their service,” Barnes said.

The base will be loaded with more than 400 classic cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

There will also be an array of food items to choose from.
