For the first time in three years, the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted the 42nd Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Thursday, Nov. 23. Technically, it wasn’t an annual event. During the pandemic, in-person events were not possible. Sixty-five volunteers served food to residents, visitors, and homeless individuals.

During the event, local businesswoman Kori DeLeon said the Thanksgiving Dinner was her favorite event. Food for the event was donated by several local restaurants.

Chamber President Juni Banico told guests that it took more than a year to plan the dinner.

“Served: 110 Seal Beach residents, mostly from Leisure World, some unhoused, and some residents or visitors to Seal Beach that did not have family or friends to celebrate the holiday with,” according to an email from Christine Bird of the Seal Beach Chamber. The placemats were drawn by seven different Girl Scout Troops, according to Bird.

Leftover food and canned goods were donated to Interval House, according to Bird.
