St. Bonaventure kicks off the school year

Before the first school bell rang at Saint Bonaventure Catholic School, the faculty, administration, and students were already out of the gate, eager to begin a new school year.

The school’s Annual Giving, Legacy of Excellence, campaign (which keeps tuition one of the lowest among Orange County Catholic schools) launched with a reception at Seacliff Country Club in Huntington Beach. In the classrooms, faculty was busy implementing a second year of math using the Singapore Math hands-on, interactive teaching method.

A new interactive science program for grades K-8 will begin this year, acquired with “Fund-a-Need” donations received from parents, grandparents, alumni and friends who attended the spring 2012 Arabian Nights auction and dinner dance.

Families both new and returning gathered at the school field last Sunday for a relaxing afternoon of picnicking, games, and conversation. An opportunity drawing with large Lego sets as prizes netted nearly $200 for Saint Bonaventure Parish’s church renewal and renovation drive, Building Our Future … Building Our Faith. Students in grades K-8 also supported the drive by collecting more than $3,000 in specially designed miniature church boxes. The coins collected by the students demonstrated their understanding of the school’s motto, “Not Words, But Deeds.”
