Sponsors to supply water and nourishment to Seal Beach Runners

Whether  man, woman or child, runners or walkers, 10K or 5K loyalists, the majority of race participants are interested in two things after the race: finding the water station and getting their times.

Like the race itself, the supporting services to the race have evolved over the years.

A dozen or so years ago, the finish line dumped into the middle of the block on the north side of the pier.

All of the supporting services were situated on the green grassy area in Eisenhower Park, over on that side of Main Street.

The services included a runner’s time check, announcer’s stage, a few vendors and the important water and fruit stations to hydrate and nourish the race participants.

Early on in the Run Seal Beach race history, water and fruit have been provided for the runners and walkers.

In 2013, for the first time since the beginning of the race, all of the items being offered have been donated by various sponsors.

Aquafina water is being donated by Pepsi Co for the finish line.

In past years, there have been some partial finish line water sponsors, but this is the first year that all of the water is being donated.

Along with the Aquafina, Pepsi Co is also donating Gatorade.

Zico Water will again have a presence at the race and donate their Zico Coconut Water to runners and attendees over in the vendor area.

Thad Schamberger, Seal Beach resident and owner of Ned’s House of Produce, has been donating the finish line fruit for at least a dozen years.

The bananas are always a particularly welcome sight for exhausted and famished runners. Cliff Bars, donated by Cliff Bar & Company, a race favorite, will once again be available at the finish line in a variety of different flavors.

There is no doubt that many of the race tasks could not be done without an army of volunteers and handing out the water, the fruit, and the Cliff Bars is not different.

Run Seal Beach volunteers will come from LA Justice, Los Al Elementary, the Los Al  Volunteer Program and St. Hedwig School. The deadline for adult registration for the run has passed.
