Seal Beach Marine Safety Report: no rescues required this week

Seal Beach Lifeguards performed zero rescues this past week, according to Marine Safety (Lifeguard) Chief Joe Bailey’s report to the city manager. During the week from Thursday, Nov. 1, to Thursday, Nov. 8, Lifeguards did not have to perform a single ocean or boat rescue. Lifeguards answered two medical aid calls, but neither was serious. Lifeguards also treated three stingray injuries.

“The surf has been small, however the forecast shows a late season south swell should arrive during the upcoming weekend,” Bailey wrote.

“Construction on the winter sand dyke is underway; the contractor hopes to be done with the work on Friday Nov. 9, at the latest Wednesday, Nov. 14.  Please remember the East Beach is closed during heavy equipment use,” Bailey wrote.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Lt. Chris Pierce and Marine Safety Officer Nick Bolin attended a “train the trainer” class.  The class covered training techniques for seasonal lifeguards.  Seal Beach Marine Safety Ocean Lifeguard tryouts will be held April 14.
