SBPD arrests suspect in fatal DUI car crash

A car collided with a pole on the southbound side of Seal Beach Boulevard, south of North Gate Road, on Monday, March 4. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was arrested on suspicion of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated. He was identified as Victor Alfonso Campos Carranza, age 39, of Los Angeles.

On Monday, March 4, 2024, at approximately 0202 a.m., Seal Beach Police Department officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover traffic collision in the area of southbound Seal Beach Boulevard. The female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the Serious Traffic Accident Response Team responded to investigate the collision. A Sigalert was issued for the closure of all southbound lanes on Seal Beach Boulevard at Old Ranch Parkway, the northbound #1 and #2 lanes of Seal Beach Boulevard at Golden Rain Road, and both the I-405 southbound and I-405 northbound off ramp left turn lanes at the Seal Beach Boulevard exit.

All roadways were reopened by 11:30 a.m. that day.

The male driver was arrested following a DUI investigation and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Carranza was later transported to Orange County Jail to be booked for CVC 23153(a), felony DUI causing bodily injury, and CPC 191.5(a), gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
