Run Seal Beach board distributes $103k to local organizations

The Los Alamitos High Film program was among the recipients of grant funding from Run Seal Beach.

On Monday, May 13, members of the Run Seal Beach board of directors met with leaders from local organizations awarded 2024 grants. This year, Run Seal Beach awarded $103,000 to local nonprofits and school organizations in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the annual 5k and 10k race. In what has become an annual event, Run Seal Beach set up at Seal Beach City Hall to hand out checks, shake hands and take photos with recipients.

As a nonprofit organization, Run Seal Beach relies on sponsorships and registrations from their annual fundraising event, a 5k or 10k race through old town Seal Beach, that also took 10k runners onto the Naval Weapons base this year.

“The distribution of grants each May is the result of a year’s worth of hard work, the generosity of our sponsors, the participation of our runners and walkers, and the support of our volunteers and the Seal Beach community,” Run Seal Beach President Rollin White said. “It’s also a favorite day of the year, as we meet with the people who will benefit from such wonderful collaboration.”

A sample of 2024 grant recipients includes local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Casa Youth Shelter, and youth sports and music clubs.

This year, more than 4000 people registered for Run Seal Beach, a 20% increase that allowed for a similar increase in year-over-year grant awards. Local nonprofits seeking to receive a grant award must complete a grant request, articulating how funds will be used to promote health and wellness in the Seal Beach and surrounding community. Requests are reviewed, and amounts are approved by the RSB board of directors, and use of funds is closely documented. Additionally, a partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of Long Beach raised nearly $3500 to be used to fund the ‘Meals of Love’ program, paying for the meals of RMH residents.
