Monday, April 29

Welfare Check—5:27 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—The caller said an individual who the caller believed to be a minor was in front of the location, begging for money. The caller thought officers should check on him. Police unit 107 found an adult male and counseled the individual. No further police services were necessary.

Tuesday, April 30

Animal Information—6:07 p.m.—15th Street—The caller said someone left two animals in a pet carrier at the location. The caller did not know what kind of pets they were or who left them. The caller waited for animal control in the alley to the rear. Message delivered to Long Beach Animal Care Services. It turned out the pet carrier contained two cats. A woman agreed to keep the cats at her home until Long Beach ACS arrived. The log did not make it clear if the woman was the original caller or another person.

Wednesday, May 1

Business Burglary—6:59 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man came into the store, looked at the cell phones in a manner that the caller described as suspicious, then grabbed two cell phones and ran. Under California law, entering a business with the intent of stealing something is considered business burglary, a felony. Impulsively stealing something is theft and may be a felony or a misdemeanor depending on the value of the property stolen.

Petty Theft—9:42 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said an individual stole $15 from a tip jar and left on foot. It was not clear from the log if the suspect took the money out of the tip jar or took the tip jar itself. Report taken.

Thursday, May 2

Suspicious Circumstances—9:22 a.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller reported seeing an individual throwing things off a roof. The caller said that they were building a cell phone tower on the roof, but the caller believed that the individual on the roof at the time was not working on the tower. The caller said the individual had a red light that he was using on the tower. Patrol contacted the individual, who was cleaning the area.

Welfare Check—7:21 p.m.—Farquhar Avenue—The caller said two small dogs had been barking and that it was very unusual. The front door of the residence was open, but the screen was closed and no one was answering the door. The caller said that a woman lived there with her young daughter. Patrol checked the interior of the residence and found no signs of foul play. The dogs had food and water and the neighbors had seen the homeowner earlier in the day.

Wednesday, May 1

Petty Theft–6:47 p.m.—Los Vaqueros Circle—The caller reported two individuals taking scrap metal from the trash bins behind a business. They arrived in two separate Chevy pickups and were loading the metal into the trucks. One was wearing a white tank top and the other a blue shirt. Patrol contacted the individuals. They were cited in the field and released.

Tuesday, May 30

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—9:23 a.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—A deputy patrolled the area for a man who was reportedly yelling at passing cars. The caller was concerned for the children walking to school in the area. The caller said the man was not known to the area.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—4:37 p.m.—Hedwig Road—A deputy performed a patrol check near the park, looking for a woman who was reportedly approaching children to talk about God.

Wednesday, May 1

Petty Theft Report—9:12 a.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said a briefcase was taken from a vehicle that was possibly left unlocked. The crime apparently occurred Saturday, April 27.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—9:55 a.m.—Harrisburg Road—The caller was in the mother-in-law’s house and found a grenade. The pin was still in place.

Thursday, May 2

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—2:48 p.m.—Baskerville Road—The caller watched a man who only visited half the houses in the area, then saw another neighbor and left. The caller believed the man was only pretending to be passing out fliers.

Friday, May 3

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—3:05 a.m.—Quail Run Road—The caller reported a suspicious odor coming from the location.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle—5:25 a.m.—Montecito Road and Bostonian Drive—Three women were reportedly going through trashcans on the street. They were seen in a car parked on Montecito Road.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—7:31 p.m.—Foster Road.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—10:19 p.m.—Copa De Oro Drive.
