Raising awareness of pancreatic cancer

The city of Seal Beach recently declared November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Seal Beach residents Allyn Mattox and Kathy Mackenzie will be participating in Purple Stride Orange County 2012 at William H. Mason Regional Park in Irvine. Both women lost their husbands to the disease.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is sponsoring the event and has already risen over $115,000 to be used for research; patient support and ways to find methods of early detection. This year alone, 44,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and of those 38, 000 are expected to die. For more information; visit Pancan.org.
