Main Street Cold Stone owner buys Tropical Juice

Main Street’s Tropical Juice store has a new owner. Sharon Gottlieb, the owner of the Cold Stone Creamery on Main and Ocean, bought the juice shop, one of two on Seal Beach’s iconic Main Street, on July 1.

Gottlieb said the Tropical Juice shop had two owners before she bought the store.

The most recent previous owners were the Jones family.

“My husband and I sold Tropical Juice because we are relocating to Hawaii, which is where I am originally from,” Jan Jones said.  She said it was a pleasure to serve the residents of Seal Beach as well as the visitors.

“We are sad about it, but (are) looking forward to the next adventure in our lives,” Jones said.

Gottlieb said she bought Tropical Juice because it was a good business and she wanted to expand it.

She said she has added to the products available in the store. The new shop includes a large selection of Jelly Belly brand jellybeans. Gottlieb said she added them because there are really no candy stores on Main Street any more.

“I wanted to offer products that nobody else has and to compliment Cold Stone,” Gottlieb said.

For example, both Cold Stone and Tropical Juice offer yogurt, but Cold Stone offers low-fat yogurt. She said Tropical Juice now offers non-fat yogurt.

While she has expanded the range of products at Tropical Juice, Gottlieb has no plans to physically expand the shop. The juice business is located between her ice cream shop and a bar and grille. There is no seating inside the shop and none outside.

She said that Tropical Juice would be joining the Chamber of Commerce, as has the Cold Stone store itself.

As part of her marketing plan for the juice shop, she will start a new loyalty program and begin off-season marketing.

Gottlieb, who bought Cold Stone in September 2012, said there would be a grand reopening for Tropical Juice, probably in September.  However, she wants to get new products in place before then.

“I’m just excited to be a bigger part of the Seal Beach Community and getting to know new people at Tropical Juice,” Gottlieb said.

She said she might acquire other businesses in the future, not necessarily in food service.

She said she has a background in apparel and communications.
