Los Al PD arrest man for possession of pot for sale

Los Alamitos Police officers arrested a man for possession of about 18-and-a-half grams of marijuana during the early hours of Friday, April 13.

Police received a report of a disturbance at 4:10 a.m.

According to Capt. Bruce McAlpine, two men apparently had an argument.

“It sounded like they had both been drinking,” McAlpine said. Then the two men started arguing while they were on their way home.

According to the Los Al PD’s Weekly Crime Summary, officers responded to the 11200 block of Los Alamitos Boulevard.

There officers found Marco Tovares, of Los Alamitos. McAlpine said officers found he had about 18-and-a-half grams of marijuana.

McAlpine said the marijuana was in a bag. Based on the packaging, officers believed it was intended for sale.

McAlpine said the amount of marijuana was too much for personal use.

Officers booked Tovares for possession of marijuana for sale.

McAlpine said detectives are looking into Tovares’ background.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website, Tovares was released on bond at 10:44 p.m., April 13.

The Sheriff’s Department website did not provide a date for a future court appearance for Tovares.

The Orange County Supperior Court website does not have information about an upcoming case involving anyone named Marco Tovares.

A quiet run in Seal Beach

From a police perspective, the Seal Beach 5K/10K Run-Walk was quiet. Seal Beach Police Sgt. Steve Bowles said seven cars were towed for parking in no parking spaces.

Monday, April 9

Sexual Assalt—9:09 a.m.—Fourth Street—Report taken. Seal Beach Police Sgt. Steve Bowles confirmed that a sexual assault was reported and was being investigated.

Disturbance, Juveniles—10:43 a.m.—Avalon and Crestview—The caller said two boys, 8 to 9 years old, were jumping off residential porches and planters. Police unit 141 apparently contacted the boys and advised them to stop. They said they would comply.

Missing Purse—10:47 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported the theft of a purse from a shopping cart within the last 10 minutes. The caller was cancelled before the police unit arrived—the caller found the purse in another shopping cart.

Burglary Report—12:35 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Loss: liquor. The crime apparently occurred on April 1. The log did not say if this was a residential or business burglary. Report taken.

Suspicious Person—6:41 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man with a high-powered camera was taking pictures of a destroyer. The man was standing by the northbound lanes near the bridge. Police unit 206 contacted a woman on the bridge. She was apparently advised to leave and said she would comply.

Tuesday, April 10

Vandalism—8:03 a.m.—Electric Avenue—The caller’s home was egged during the night. She said she would hire a service company to clean her home.

Suspicious Person—8:44 a.m.—Beryl Cove Way—The caller said a woman in a hoodie was going door to door, checking the door handles to residences. Police unit 141 contacted a woman matching the description. She was a house cleaner. The officer determined no further police services were necessary.

Fraud—10:19 a.m.—Montecito Road—A woman said she gave a check to a caregiver, who reportedly changed the amount to $1,000 more than the woman originally wrote and then cashed the check. Report taken.

Burglary Report—11:33 a.m.—First Street—The Point of entry: the keys might have been left in the door. Loss: a laptop and Bayblade toy. Report taken.

Disturbance—5:21 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said an individual who was drunk toilet-papered the bathroom at the location and then left, pushing a woman in a wheelchair. Police unit 106 interviewed the two in the field. They were given a verbal warning against trespassing.

Vandalism—9:07 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said an unspecified number of individuals on the beach threw eggs at the caller’s home. The suspects were no longer there. The caller said there was permanent damage to his screen. The crime apparently occurred at 8:30 p.m.

Petty Theft—10:47 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said an employee of a business stole money out of the caller’s purse. The crime apparently occurred at about 8:16 p.m. According to the log, the business owner had the suspect on video. A suspect was arrested for petty theft.

Wednesday, April 11

Burglary Report—11:51 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man cut the security wrap off a hard drive at 10:46 a.m., Thursday, April 5. Loss: $99.99. Report taken.

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—12:34 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported a vehicle parked in a rear lot near Leisure World. The caller said they were looking around and might be getting ready to jump over the wall into Leisure World. Police unit 106 contacted the two men in the car. They had a flat tire.

Disturbance—4:46 p.m.—15th Street—A man and his ex-girlfriend had an argument over a dog. The ex-girlfriend came to the location banging on the front door. She and the man argued. She reportedly punched him in the face. The man’s sister then called the police. The man did not want to file a police report and he declined medical attention.

Disturbance, Noise—11:37 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said someone was operating machinery. Police unit 207 contacted the individual responsible and they said they would stop.

Thursday, April 12

Dead Animal—9:26 a.m.—Apollo Court and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported a dead rat in the southbound lanes at Apollo. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Burglary Report—11:10 a.m.—Marvista Avenue—The caller’s scooter was taken from her garage on Wednesday, April 11. The caller thought she saw someone riding a scooter going northbound on Pacific Coast Highway 10 minutes earlier. However, police could not confirm that a crime had occurred. Police waited to contact a neighbor for more information.

Ducks—5:41 p.m.—Ironwood and Tulip—The caller said a mother duck with 11 ducklings kept going across Lampson. The ducks were reportedly trying to get to the golf course. Police referred the caller to the Long Beach Fire Department, which in turn referred the matter to Long Beach Animal Care Services. The caller agreed to contact the police again if the ducks became a traffic hazard.

Prowler—10:53 p.m.—Pelorus Avenue—The caller said someone tried to get into her home through the front door. She was home with her husband. She said someone opened the screen door and tried the door handle. Police contacted the Naval Weapons Station and had them check the perimeter.

Friday, April 13

Welfare Check—10:14 a.m.—North Gate Road and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a woman carrying a blanket was sitting along the side of the round on the southbound side of Seal Beach Boulevard, north of North Gate Road. The caller thought that was a dangerous location. Police unit 106 found a woman waiting for a ride. She moved across the street to the bus bench.

Burglary Report—3:49 p.m.—11th Street—The crime apparently occurred within one to one-and-a-half hours before the call to police. Point of entry: an unlocked sliding glass door. Loss: a laptop, an Xbox and a jar of change. Report taken.

Saturday, April 14

Hazard—7:20 a.m.—13th Street—The caller said a tree limb was hanging down on wires with a vehicle under the limb. The log did not specify the type of tree. Public Works was paged. Police contacted Southern California Edison. The sidewalk was roped off. The property owner was notified. The vehicle was moved. The tree was taken off the wire by 8:20 a.m.

Vandalism—7:45 a.m.—Main Street—The caller said an electrical box to the rear of the business had been tampered with. Police determined there was no damage at that time—the only issue was an unknown fuse was pulled from the main power source. Edison advised the property owner to hire a licensed electrician. The caller secured the main fuses for the property owner. Log item issued.

Possible Petty Theft—12:46 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said her credit cards and identification were stolen. Her wallet was still in her purse, but the cards and ID were gone. The crime apparently occurred the night before at 6:30 p.m. Report taken.

Hazard—4:14 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a new tree installed next to the parking lot looked like it was about to blow over. Police advised Public Works that the tree needed to be secured. The sidewalk was closed off. Referred.

Extra Patrol Check Requested—7:52 p.m.—Main Street—The caller said the patrons of neighboring businesses were using the parking lot, allowing the caller’s customers to park. Beat unit advised.

Sunday, April 15

Fireworks—12:47 a.m.—Doogwood and Ironwood—The caller said two individuals had set off fireworks 30 minutes earlier.

Patrol Check—10:03 a.m.—Lampson Avenue—The officer in unit 141 reported no dog owner problems. The officer advised several individuals against flying model aircraft. Log entry.

Petty Theft Report—2:55 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Loss: a smartphone valued at $719. No suspect information. Occurred within the last hour. Report taken.

Petty Theft Report—5:25 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a suspect shoplifted items and then returned them to the store for a cash refund. The caller said the suspect left his wallet in the bathroom containing identification belonging to another individual. Report taken.

Monday, April 9

Counseling—8:38 a.m.—El Dorado Drive,  Mutual Unknown—A Leisure World resident said he received material and phone calls about a sweepstakes he supposedly won. He thought it might be a scam. Fortunately, the man suffered no loss and did not provide the “sweepstakes” people with either money or information.

Thursday, April 5

Missing Adult—2:34 a.m.—Walnut Street—The caller said he woke up to find his girlfriend gone. She was last seen when he went to bed and her car was still at the location. The caller later reported that he could not find her shoes and thought she might have gone out for a run. The female was later located. She had gone jogging.

Disturbance By Juveniles—8:14 a.m.—Chestnut and Florista—The caller reported having eight juveniles detained who admitted to causing a disturbance last week and requested they be counseled. All eight students admitted to ringing doorbells, banging mailboxes and running through the property. All were counseled and reportedly will be disciplined.

Saturday, April 7

Disturbance—1:36 a.m.—Ticonderoga Drive—The caller reported a house just west of his residence had people outside who had been partying and playing the guitar for the past three hours. Patrol contacted the people in the home. They said they would take it inside for the night.

Sunday, April 8

Disturbance—5:44 a.m.—San Joaquin Avenue—The caller reported that his neighbor got into a verbal altercation with him over parking issues. He reported that his neighbor had gone back in the house. The caller was advised to go into his house until a patrol car arrived. Police assisted with exchange of information regarding a traffic accident that occurred with the neighbor and a parked car.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle—9:41 a.m.—Montecito Road and Bradbury Road—The caller said someone drove past her house and turned around when he saw her leaving. The caller thought he was casing the area.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle—6:08 p.m.—Kempton Drive and Foster Road—The caller reported seeing two men in a white van that was unknown to the area. The caller was concerned because of recent burglaries in Rossmoor.

Open Door—7:59 p.m.—Rowena Drive—The caller said the doors at the location had been open for two days with the lights on and no activity. Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies cleared the house.

Thursday, April 19

Patrol Check—12:08 a.m.—Martha Ann Drive and Brimhall Drive—A deputy performed a patrol check to determine the source of a large amount of water flooding the drains in the area.

It turned out hydrants were being flushed. No further police services were necessary.

Illegal Peddling—3:38 p.m.—Piedmont Avenue and Kensington Road—A deputy checked the area for two men going door-to-door.

Suspicious Vehicle—10:33 p.m.—Woodstock Road—The caller approached a vehicle that he thought was suspicious. However, the window tint was so dark he was unable to determine if the vehicle was occupied. The caller requested a patrol check.

Friday, April 20

Suspicious Vehicle—10:52 a.m.—Drysdale Lane—The caller saw a driver pull into a neighbor’s driveway, sit there for a minute, then pull back out. The motorist drove by houses slowly. The caller said the vehicle was not from the neighborhood.

Saturday, April 21
