Los Al pastor comes home

Cottonwood Church Pastor Bayless Conley is home from the hospital Thursday, Feb. 20. The church website announced his release on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Conley was one of three men who were injured when the boat they were fishing on went aground on Catalina Island on Jan. 27.

“The Conley family and the Cottonwood Church leadership team are overjoyed to report that Pastor Bayless was released from the hospital on Thursday,” the website said.

“His medical team advised that he is making steady progress on all fronts, considering the gravity of his recent injuries,” the website said.

“The doctors are confident that, following the prescribed period of rehabilitation, rest, and recuperation, Pastor Bayless will make a full and complete recovery and resume his very active lifestyle and ministry,” the website said.

The previous week, the church announced that Conley had been moved out of the intensive care unit.

This Sunday, the church released a personal statement from Conley online.

“Hey Cottonwood! I’m writing this from home. Thank you for your prayers and spiritual steadiness. Every day I am regaining strength and I am trusting God for a full recovery,” Conley wrote.

“I love you (and) miss you,” Conley wrote.

“We have been blessed with a gifted and faithful leadership team who has been prepared for this season. Keep on soaking up the Word, keep on walking in unity and look for good things from God’s gracious hand,” he wrote. “I have you in my heart, Bayless.”

Conley suffered injuries to his neck and throat when the powerboat he was on ran aground at Arrow Point on Catalina Island at about 7 p.m., Monday night, Jan. 27, according to Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Station in Avalon.

Of Conley’s two fellow fishermen, Pastor Jeff Perry of St. Lewis Family Church, Chesterfield, Mo., has been reported released. A pastor’s letter with Perry’s byline appeared on the Family Church’s website on Monday, Feb. 10.
