Los Alamitos Diver, Sydney Czaus started the summer club diving season strong. She earned a place at the Junior Age Group National Championships in Tucson, Arizona at the end of July. The Junior Zone Championships were held earlier this month in Pasadena. She earned a place at the USA Diving Age Group Nationals by finishing in the top twelve against the best of the West Coast Divers.

She earned seventh place in the 16-18 Girls one meter and three meter springboard competitions and eleventh in the ten meter platform event. Divers from around the United States will compete in four age groups at the Junior Age Group Nationals.

At 17 years old, Sydney has only one more year in the Junior Age category.

In preparation for college competition and beyond, Sydney competed in the Senior Zone Championships in Mission Viejo this weekend.

This is the category for competitors going on to the top international competitions including World Championships and Pan American Games and Olympic Games in the years those competitions are held. Sydney earned a place in the Finals in all three categories, finishing sixth on the ten meter Platform, eighth on the three meter springboard and eleventh on the one meter springboard event.

Sydney’s favorite event is the ten meter platform. That is as high as a three story building. Competitors need to complete a variety of dives from six different starting positions including dives that twist while somersaulting and dives that start in a handstand at the end of the platform.
