Los Al boys soccer ties and loses

The Los Al High boys’ soccer team failed to earn a win in two straight games. On Feb. 5, it tied Marina in a 1-1 score in Sunset League action. They then fell to Edison by the score of 1-0 in league action on Feb. 7.

Against Marina, both team battled to a tie at the end of the first quarter and each notched both of their scores in the second half. Michael DiMatteo had the goal for the Griffins, off an assist by Joe Reinard. Goalie Alec Lazar was credited with six saves.

Christian Zermeno scored Marina’s goal.

Against Edison, the Griffins again kept the opposition off the board in the first half, but Connor Gordon notched the only goal of the game late in the second half on a penalty kick.

The win clinched the Sunset League title for the Chargers. The Griffins remain in control for second place.

The Griffins last win came against Fountain Valley two weeks ago. Los Alamitos owns a 10-2-3 overall record and 6-2-3 mark in league play.

It will return to action against Newport Harbor at 3 p.m. today at Los Alamitos High.
