Local Scott Durzo pleads not guilty to charges, is now released on bail

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website, a Seal Beach man accused of sexually abusing a child eight years ago was relased from the Orange County Jail on Wednesday, June 11. The website said bond had been posted. According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, bail had been set at $250,000.

On Friday, June 6, 2014, Scott Durzo pleaded not guilty to 18 felony counts stemming from allegations he sexually abused a male minor beginning in 2005.

Durzo entered the guilty plea at his Friday arraignment. An arraignment is a formal reading of the charge and the time when a defendant enters a plea. The charge is an accusation, not evidence.

No date has been set yet for the preliminary hearing that will determine if the case goes to trial. As a matter of law, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Scott Durzo, 49, who owns a youth sports camp business called the Total Sport Camp, was originally charged Friday, May 9, with nine felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14. According to the Orange County Superior Court website, all nine counts were based on an incident that allegedly occurred on May 1, 2005.

Durzo has also been charged with seven felony counts of lewd acts upon a child age 14 or 15, one felony count of sodomy with a minor, one felony count of displaying pornography to a minor, and a sentencing enhancement allegation for substantial sexual conduct with a child.
