Harbour Views: Huntington Harbour Happenings

Sunday, May 15, 3-6 p.m. A “Fuel Dock Celebration Party” is scheduled at the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club (3821 Warner, next to the fire station.) The new owners, Chuck McDaniels and Mike Della Rocco from Maxum Petroleum will be making a presentation. Also scheduled to attend are City Council members, police and fire department representatives, and several community groups and organizations will have information available. Cost is $10 per person which includes appetizers (no host bar), with all proceeds benefiting the Huntington Beach Sailing Foundation.

Speaking of the Huntington Beach Sailing Foundation, it’s time to register for the Summer Sailing Program! (My kids did it last year and had a blast—we’re signing up again.)  For kids ages 6-16 there are daytime classes held in 3 week sessions, Monday-Thursday. Adult classes are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and everyone is welcome to attend the famous Thursday night “Burger Bashes”. Returning as Director again this year is Liz Sanchez.

Ronald Lee from the Sailing Foundation Board reports, “Through our continuing fundraising efforts, the Foundation has been re-building its fleet of sail boats. In 2015, we purchased 16 new Optimist Cubes, which were a big hit with all of our students last summer. I am excited to announce that currently on order for delivery this June are 8 Open BIC sail boats (single-sailor, laser-type, racing sail boats), which will be available for our intermediate and advanced students.” Applications and waivers are available online at www.sailhb.org. Scholarships are also available.

June 4 and 5 is the annual Huntington Harbour Yacht Club Open House and Boat Show. Stop by the club and check out all the fun! Membership is less than you think and you’ll have more fun than you could imagine with this non-snooty bunch! Visit www.hhyc.org for more details as the date draws nearer.

While you’re there, sign up for the 6th Annual HHYC Golf Tournament benefiting the Sailing Foundation at Meadowlark Golf Course. It’s scheduled for Friday, July 29 with dinner, awards, a raffle and silent auction included in the ticket price. Hole sponsors are wanted too.
