Gunman robs Wesminster Avenue Chevron

A man used a gun to steal approximately $300 cash from the Chevron service station at 2950 Westminster Ave., in Seal Beach, Monday night, March 14.

The crime occurred around 7 p.m.

Fortunately, no one was physically harmed during the crime.

The following is the police account of the incident as recorded in the dispatch log and described in a police press release.

The gunman, a clean-shaven white man, 25 to 30 years old, pointed a gun at the victim.

The victim gave up the money.

The criminal left with cash in a white, plastic grocery bag.

The suspect was described as 6 feet tall with a medium build.

He was last seen going westbound on Pacific Coast Highway. Report taken.

Seal Beach Police and DEA host Drug Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held at Seal Beach Police Department headquarters on Saturday, April 30.

In partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, local police will set up a “drive thru” legal drug prescription drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

No questions will be asked. Everything will be anonymous.

Members of the public will be able to dispose of their old, expired and unwanted prescription or over the counter drugs without leaving their cars.

No syringes will be accepted. Participants are asked to remove patient information from the drug containers.

More than 7 million Americans abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.

Approximately 2,500 teenage Americans use prescription drugs to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.

Transient Reported—3:41 p.m.—17th Street and Electric Avenue—The caller reported a man laying in the rear carport of a large apartment building. He was arrested on an outstanding, no bail warrant.

Wednesday, March 16

Identity Theft—8:51 a.m.—Teaberry Circle—A citizen reported that someone took $4,600 from the citizen’s bank account.

Vehicle Burglary—9:04 p.m.—Old Ranch Parkway—Point of entry: unknown. Report taken.

Thursday, March 17

Malicious Mischief to a Vehicle—9:37 a.m.—B Row, Surfside Colony—The caller’s vehicle was keyed between 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 16 and 8:15 a.m., Thursday, March 17.

Welfare Check—12:31 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported a man in his late 50s or early 60s laying on the sidewalk. Police unit 107 arrested the man for public drunkenness.

Friday, March 18

Dead Animal—6:46 p.m.—College Park Drive—The caller reported an unspecified dead animal in the wash at the east side of the park, 100 yards north of the fence.

Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Suspicious Circumstances—8:30 a.m.—B Row, Surfside Colony—The caller, relaying second-hand information from a resident, said a man with a flashlight was looking into vehicles. The suspect was described as a white man with curly hair, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, wearing a light colored hoodie.

Saturday, March 19

Injured Animal—4:25 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—A female duck was injured. She was located in the planter directly in front of a store. A male duck apparently stood by her all day. Referred to Long Beach Animal Control Services.

Petty Theft—4:57 p.m.—Main Street—Someone stole a citizen’s 7-foot yellow surfboard off the roof rack of the victim’s vehicle. The surfboard was valued at $300. No suspect information. Report taken.

Sunday, March 20

Suspicious Vehicle—2:17 -p.m.—Lampson Avenue—Police unit 106, while on duty, found four men in a vehicle. It turned out they were waiting to go to work.

Friday, March 18

Counseling—2:31 p.m.—Thunderbird Drive, Mutual Unknown—The caller wanted to speak with a police officer about lending money to an acquaintance in July who now refused to pay her back. She was counseled about the civil issue.

Lost Property—3:18 p.m.—St. Andrews Drive, Mutual Unknown—The caller lost his wallet somewhere between his residence and his girlfriend’s residence. The loss apparently occurred between 12:45 and 2 p.m.

IN LOS ALAMITOS

Thursday, March 17

Petty Theft—12:54 p.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—Loss: two skateboards.

Vehicle Burglary—6:12 p.m.—Katella Avenue—Point of entry: unknown. Loss: a white bichon frise dog.

Drunk—6:59 p.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said a man was sitting in a parked vehicle with door open. The man was extremely drunk and regurgitating. He was picked up by family member.

Friday, March 18

Disturbance—2:59 a.m.—Howard Avenue—Loud party. The people responsible for the party were advised about the complaint and said they would comply.
