Guilty plea ends attempted murder case

A Seal Beach man pled guilty to the attempted murder of his father on Tuesday, March 13. Dalton Aguirre, 23, was scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing to determine whether he should stand trial for stabbing his father multiple times in 2010. Instead, Aguirre entered a guilty plea. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 5.

Aguirre remains in custody in the Orange County Jail, where he has been held since his arrest in the early hours of Oct. 14, 2010.

That night, at about 1:24 a.m., the Seal Beach Police Department, received a report of a man who had been multiple times stabbed in the head and torso. Police never released the victim’s name, but they identified the suspect in the case—the victim’s adult son.

Preliminary reports at that time suggested the stabbing was the result of an on-going conflict between father and son.

Shortly after his arrest, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office charged Aguirre with attempted murder along with three potential sentencing “enhancements”” premeditated attempted murder, using a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily harm. However, the Orange County Superior Court website currently lists only one charge against Aguirre: attempted murder.
