Grant Litfin to chair Community Support Campaign

The Youth Center has announced that Los Alamitos High School Principal Grant Litfin, Ph.D will chair its 15th annual Community Support Campaign.

Litfin has served the community for three years as principal of LAHS.

“Young people are successful in our community because adults build networks of support around them,” he said. “We see this in nearly every arena from academics, to the arts, to athletics. The Youth Center is one of the key players in that process and that’s why I am pleased and honored to chair the Community Support Campaign. I experienced the Every 15 Minutes program last year with LAHS students and know how valuable it is for them and the whole community.”

Litfin is a young and dynamic principal who grew up watching and learning from his parents’ example in education and coaching.

His mother is a special education teacher and his father is a Middle School and High School PE/Health teacher who has also served as a varsity coach for golf, baseball, basketball, and football during his tenure.

Litfin moved to California in 2001, three days after graduating from Saint John’s University. He started as a teacher in Torrance soon after and also had the opportunity to serve that district as an Assistant Principal at two middle schools and at South High School. He then served for two years as the Principal of North High before coming to Los Alamitos.

In 2007 Dr. Litfin completed a Doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of Southern California and was recognized in 2008 by the Torrance Chamber of Commerce as a Community Volunteer of the Year.

Campaign Kickoff is scheduled for March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Youth Center, 10909 Oak St., Los Alamitos. The Youth Center is celebrating its 60th Birthday this year. To learn more about the Youth Center, visit the website atwww.TheYouthCenter.org or call (562) 493-4043.
