Jaden Gustafson tripled to the right-center gap to plate Callahan and broke the seal for Wichita State. Jordan Rogers homered to left center for a 5-3 score. Kam Durnin walked. Darnell Parker, Jr. attempted to bunt for a base hit, but the resulting sacrifice moved Durnin to second. Camden Johnson hit a comebacker that went off Montgomery’s glove to Marinconz at second. He threw onto Rodriguez at first to complete the inning.

As Newman Jr. came to bat, Ryan Geraghty entered for the Shockers. Wichita State brought the infield in against the Long Beach State catcher. With the count 0-1, a Geraghty wild pitch scored Ashworth.
