Deaton wins District One race with 68.2 percent of vote

Seal Beach Mayor Ellery Deaton was re-elected Tuesday, Nov. 4, as the councilwoman for District One, which includes Old Town and the Surfside Colony.

Technically, the results are not official until the Orange County Registrar of Voters certifies the election.

Re-Elect Ellery Deaton 2014 issued an email statement signed by the mayor thanking her supporters.

In District Three, the Hill, Bridgeport, Heron Pointe and the trailer park, businessman Mike Varipapa won.

In District Five, Leisure World, Planning Commissioner Sandra Massa-Lavitt narrowly won by not quite 5 percent of the vote.

Voters approved Measure EE, which decreased the Utility User Tax and expanded the utilities that were covered by the tax.

Voters also approved changing the City Charter to allow the council to appoint a city clerk.

The voters’ decision comes the week after current City Clerk Linda Devine announced her plans to retire at the end of the year.
