Monday, July 9

Grand Theft Report—7:22 a.m.—Adolfo Lopez Drive—The crime apparently occurred in the fenced in area of the cul-de-sac at an unknown time. Loss: possibly in excess of $10,000. Public Works told police unit 107 that a blanket had been thrown over the barbed wire fence. Report taken.

Petty Theft—10:11 a.m.—4th Street—Loss: a Seal Beach residential parking sticker. Log entry.

Found Property—11:29 a.m.—Marine Avenue—A citizen found a backpack containing documents. Report taken.

Water Problem—5:58 p.m.—Heron Circle—The caller said a large amount of water was coming from the drainage ditch area and flooding. The caller tried knocking on a neighbor’s door, but no one answered. Police unit 241 found the pool overflowing and flooding the backyard at a Heron Circle residence. The officer closed the water valve feeding the pool and left a note. Matter solved.

Structure Fire—8:41 p.m.—Montecito Road—A building in the Rossmoor Park condominium complex was evacuated as a result of a fire. Some units were red tagged. One resident was arrested for violating California Penal Code 148.2—resisting or interfering “with the lawful efforts of any fireman or firemen or emergency rescue personnel in the discharge or attempt to discharge an official duty.”

Tuesday, July 10

Citizen Assist—4:36 a.m.—Central Avenue and Main—An individual who was apparently drunk was dropped off at a location only to find that they were booked up. That individual called police for assistance, but did not want dispatch to call a taxi. Assisted.

Assist Other Agency—11:44 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station Security reported that a man and a woman in a car ignored barriers at the entrance and now the vehicle was stuck. The man and woman were released at the scene. Apparently there  was a language barrier between the two citizens and base security personnel.

Counseling—1:18 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a local recycling center gave out vouchers for recyclables and an unknown suspect tried to cash a fraudulent voucher. The caller provided no further details. Report taken.

Illegal Peddler—3:48 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street—The caller said a woman in the center median was holding a sign, begging for money. Police unit 107 apparently advised her to stop begging for money. She said she would comply.

Disturbance, Juveniles—4:12 p.m.—Lampson Avenue—The caller said three juveniles, all boys, were hitting golf balls at the caller’s building. The caller said they refused to stop when they were asked to do so. An employee at a business told police unit 107 that they kicked out “a couple” of juveniles at about the time of the original call to police.

Municipal Code Violation—7:39 p.m.—Dolphin and Ocean—The caller said a dog was tied to the pole at the volley ball net area. Citation issued.

Vehicle Burglary—9:18 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The crime apparently occurred between 9 p.m. and the time of the call to police. Point of entry: a smashed window. Loss: a purse, a cellphone and other items. No suspect information. Report taken.

Wednesday, July 11

Burglary Report—7:36 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The crime occurred at a business under construction sometime during the previous night. Point of entry: a rear side door. Loss: a chop saw, drill, ladder and shovel. Report taken.

Injured Animal—8:37 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a large pelican, possibly injured or sick, was near a Lifeguard Tower. Message delivered to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Vehicle Burglary—9:18 a.m.—2nd Street—The crime apparently occurred overnight. Loss: equipment and tools from a vehicle. Point of entry: unknown.

Petty Theft Report—12:01 p.m.—Electric Avenue—Loss: a wallet and miscellaneous papers from the caller’s vehicle. The time of the theft was unknown. No report at that time. The caller promised to come back with property paper work.

Parking—1:31 p.m.—Dolphin and Seal—The caller said a vehicle had been parked for more than one hour in a one-hour zone and was blocking construction work. However, police unit 441 spoke with a construction worker who said the vehicle was not in their way. The officer also determined that the vehicle was parked legally.

Thursday, July 12

Noises—1:18 a.m.—Main Street—The caller heard noises from behind the back of the house or staircase. Before calling the police, the caller heard a pounding noise. The caller could now hear voices. Unknown if the voices came from foot traffic from Main Street or people on her property. The caller did not want contact, just a patrol check. The caller said there was an on-going problem with individuals from Main Street loitering on her staircase and urinating.

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—5:20 a.m.—Electric Avenue—The caller said a man inside a car had the radio on all night.

Petty Theft Report—12:37 a.m.—14th Street—The caller reported the loss of two black beach cruisers with chrome handle bars. One was an Electra Brand and one was a Simple brand. The two bikes were collectively valued at $650. The bikes were locked to a staircase and the locks were also gone. The crime apparently occurred between 10 a.m. and 12:32 p.m. Report taken.

Disturbance, Family—10:25 p.m.—Montecito Road—Two individuals apparently tried to move property back into one of the units that was red tagged following a fire in the Rossmoor Park condominium complex. Police unit 241 advised them against trespassing in violation of the red tags.

Friday, July 13

Disturbance, Party—1:12 a.m.—1st Street—The caller said 15 individuals in a parking lot were being loud and blasting music from three vehicles. By 1:19 a.m., police unit 207 had disbursed the party.

Vandalism Report—7:37 a.m.—1st Street—Someone knocked off an 8-foot plank from a deck. Report taken.

Extra Patrol Checks Requested—11:17 a.m.—Wisteria and Ironwood—The caller requested extra patrol checks because he believed residents were upset about vehicles driving down their street. The caller said vehicles on Wisteria intentionally back out when other vehicles drive down the street. The caller was concerned that there would be a collision. The caller was also concerned about individuals walking in the street in groups of three or four at a time, creating a potential traffic hazard.

Burglary Report—1:17 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The log provided no further details. Report taken.

Baby Locked in Vehicle—3:06 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a 1-year-old child was locked in a vehicle with the windows rolled up. The keys were inside the vehicle. The caller had contacted AAA. Expert Tow arrived. The vehicle was opened at 3:13 p.m. The call to AAA was cancelled at 3:14 p.m.

Saturday, July 14

Transient—12:26 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—A man who the caller described as a transient was reportedly harassing customers for money and cigarettes. Police unit 141 did not observe a crime. The man left voluntarily.

Sunday, July 15

Injured Animal—4:50 p.m.—A Row, Surfside Colony—The caller said an injured pelican on the beach, near the jetty, was trying to get out into the surf with a broken wing. The caller said another, smaller bird, was dead on the sand. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Municipal Code Violation—8:03 p.m.—Cottonwood Avenue—The caller said neighbors were banging loudly with a sledgehammer. Police unit 207 advised the people responsible for the noise to stop. They said they would comply.

Disturbance, Juveniles—8:09 p.m.—Rossmoor Center Way and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a  group of juveniles were riding their bikes into the street, playing chicken with vehicles.

Keep the Peace—8:22 p.m.—Golden Rain Road, Mutual Unknown—A resident asked Leisure World Security to escort her son out because of a verbal dispute. The son apparently left on a bike

Friday, July 13

Harassing Call Report—9:40 a.m.—El Dorado Drive, Mutual Unknown—A resident received two obscene phone calls from an unknown man. The resident promised to call back if the harassment continues.

Counseling—10:47 a.m.—St. Andrews Drive, Mutual Unknown—The resident gave an unknown person bank account information over the phone on May 24. Counseled.

Saturday, July 14

Petty Theft Report—3:17 p.m.—Interlachen Road, Mutual Unknown—A resident reported the theft of a satellite dish. Report taken.

Public Drunkenness—8:33 p.m.—Leisure World Main Gate—The caller said an individual on the bus bench in front of the Main Gate was drunk. The man was arrested for public drunkenness.

Sunday, July 15

Property for Destruction—10:32 a.m.—Merion Way, Mutual 2—A family member was clearing out a resident’s unit and found ammunition, possibly from World War II.

Monday, July 9

Disturbance—10:52 p.m.—Enterprise Drive—The caller said a woman was yelling in front of the residence. The woman was out in front with three men. She was at the residence picking up property. The woman was advised to leave and not return or be subject to arrest.

Tuesday, July 10

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—1:28 a.m.—Katella Avenue—The caller said a man in a vehicle in the parking lot was acting suspicious. The car was a dark colored minivan and the man was in his late teens or early 20s. The man was jumping up and down.

The caller believed the man might have been under the influence of drugs. Patrol contacted the man, who was simply an employee who had just gotten off work and checked out OK.

Wednesday, July 11

Patrol Check—11:20 a.m.—Lassen Street—The caller reported seeing a juvenile walking down her street who was not known to the area. The caller saw a tan sedan make a u-turn in the cul-de-sac and the caller was concerned due to burglaries in the area, but was unsure if the car and the juvenile were connected with each other.

Suspicious Person—2:59 p.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller reported that a man walked up to her car and tried to get her to roll her window down. The caller refused, but saw a potential second individual involved, sitting in a blue car with the rear window missing. The second individual was then outside of car and pacing back and forth. It was suspicious only, but no crime had occurred. Patrol contacted the individuals and they checked out OK.

Family Disturbance—9:44 p.m.—Howard Avenue—The call was from a woman who was asking for the police to come to the residence. A baby was heard crying in the background and a man was heard arguing before the call was disconnected. The incident was a verbal altercation between a husband and wife. The caller’s parents had the two separated and reported that everything was OK. All parties were counseled.
