Crime Log: SBPD checkpoint captures three drunk drivers

Three drunk drivers were arrested at a Friday, Aug. 27-Saturday, Aug. 28 traffic checkpoint on Pacific Coast Highway, said Sgt. Steve Bowles, public information officer for the Seal Beach Police Department.

There will be another traffic checkpoint this weekend.

In addition to last week’s DUI arrests, Bowles said that five cars were towed because the drivers were driving on suspended licenses and six people received citations for miscellaneous traffic offenses.

This was the second DUI checkpoint operated on Pacific Cost Highway and First Street in August.

Another checkpoint will be held at the same location, this weekend, from 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 3 to 3 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 4 and again at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4 to 3 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 5.

Bowles said this would be the SBPD’s last summer DUI enforcement checkpoint. “It completes the grant,” Bowles said.

All the Seal Beach DUI checkpoints held this year were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
